I think today is 'G'

We've established I'm bad at this, but today is G and here I am with... Granola bars.

I'm something of a nerd about granola/breakfast bars because I take them to school and work all the time. I just got a package of Special K honey nut cereal bars and I feel ripped off. Why? 100mg of sodium and only 1 gram of protein?

Special K sucks.

Going to try to put a more general blog post together, but work is busy and I need caffeine.

E is for Eh

Ok, so clearly I'm not good at blogging every day commitments. I'm sad I missed 'D' because I wanted to do Dracula, but yesterday was stressful and crashing after work just looked way too good to pass up.

Boyfriend and I have been watching Monster Man on SyFy. I like it but it's a little contrived and the procrastination drives me crazy (they're always finishing monsters up to the last minute they have to get them to set). We are going to see Avenue Q this weekend -- I'm excited. Also, our small, little, sleepy town is having a book festival this weekend that I want to check out.

Tomorrow is my day off. I'm trying to decide what I want to do with it. There is a mountain of clean laundry threatening to take over the bedroom. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so it might be a perfect day to curl up with a book. I feel like I haven't gotten any reading done this week.

Leaving you with the song I listened to on the way to work. Perfect for a rainy morning Thursday.

B is for Bad, Boyfriend, and Breakfast.

Bad as in ...

1) Bad at following directions. Yesterday I was supposed to write a blog post revolving around the letter 'A'. Oops! I am now with the program -- watch out!

2) Bad smells. Something died under the building at work and it smells like dead animal and cheap candles right now. So, so, so horrible.

3) Bad dreams. I had a horrible nightmare last night that involved a hotel, a sledge hammer, jumping through a window, and running away from a serial killer.

Boyfriend! -- was sweet about my nightmare (especially since I did not beat him up in my sleep this time).

And breakfast. I have a delicious looking Quaker Cinnamon Roll bar but thank to Bad Smell it's just not appetizing at all.

'C' you tomorrow, folks!

Deciding to do this blog every day thing.... They say 21 days is all it takes to form a habit, so maybe the month of April will get me there.

It's been a pretty uneventful weekend, but after the craziness of last week it is more than welcome. On Friday, I saw The Hunger Games movie and I enjoyed it more than the book. The book never moves beyond the perspective of the protagonist, Katniss. The film does break that POV and it works really well. The book left me confused about what could happen in a sequel, and this is another place where the movie did it better. It sets up the grounds for the sequel quite nicely. I really liked Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Harrolson (sp?) in their respective roles. Most pleasantly surprising was Donald Sutherland because I thought he was dead.... Anyway, the film surpassed the book for me and so I'm glad I gave it a chance.

Finally got Peter Straub's new book, Mrs. God. I'm excited to start reading that along with Paul Temblay's anth. of short stories, Creatures.

Last night Boyfriend and I started the 6th season of Doctor Who which spawned a nerdy conversation this morning about the best doctors. Boyfriend is a little down on Matt Smith but I'm undecided....

So, that's my start to April. See you tomorrow!

And life slows down to a bloggable pace...

Things that happened last week:

A poet visited last week and me and Boyfriend hosted him before all heading to Orlando for ICFA 2012.

Did not win ICFA 2012 Iron Man contest (that goes to Poet who beat our 4:30am turn in time by 30 minutes), but it was a great week and I cannot complain about a thing.

Started not to feel good around Friday afternoon (thyroid problems maybe). After getting back from Orlando, I napped for two hours while Boyfriend unpacked, made dinner, unloaded the dishwasher, and started laundry. Best man in the world. I woke up and we watched Young Adult and The Thing (2011). We enjoyed both of them and I was pleasantly surprised that I liked The Thing a lot more than I thought I would.

I read The Hunger Games over the weekend. It was okay. I didn't love it but thought it was a compelling story.

I ordered Peter Straub's Mrs. God and Anne Rice's The Wolf Gift today. I'll probably read one of those next.

Coming back to work after an absence is always messy and today is no exception. Lots to catch up on and so I shall. Til next time.

The Mockingbird Sings at Night

Last night I listened to a mockingbird outside while I fell asleep and this morning when I woke up he was still out there chirping. Or maybe it was a different one. I like to think it was the same one and he was just not giving up on finding a mate.

I logged a good two hours on my paper and I really like how it's coming along. I think another couple tonight and tomorrow should finish it off. I've had all sorts of spare time to work on this paper but there's nothing like that "due next week" pressure to get make the writing process really flow. That's how I roll.

The weekend has filled up quickly. I'm going to be busy but I'm already scheming on exactly when I'll be able to catch up on some sleep (still (!) not adapting to the time change).

Back to work. Only 7.5 hours to go... Joy, joy, joy.
